A tropical disturbance brewing off the Southeast coast of the United States could impact the region during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Forecasters are closely monitoring the system, which has a moderate chance of forming into a tropical or subtropical depression.

A disturbance near the coast of the Southeast U.S. now appears likely to form later today or sometime this weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center. The disturbance is not expected to have any impact on Louisiana as the system drifts northward.

The tropical depression, on Friday, July 4, became the third weather system of this hurricane season. The system was moving toward the Southeast coast, near the Carolinas, on the Fourth of July before it became a named depression. Tropical depression three is forecasted to become Tropical Storm Chantal and could be named over the weekend.
