The Nikkei newspaper said Honda was considering switching some production to the U.S., aiming for 90% of cars sold in the country to be made there.

The Japanese business newspaper claims that Honda plans to increase U.S. vehicle production by as much as 30% over the next two to three years. This decision was triggered by President Trump's 25% levy on imported cars and auto parts into the country, as it aims to produce upwards of 90% of cars sold in the U.S. on home turf.

Mexican Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Tuesday that Honda executives in the country had spoken with the government and said they have no plans to modify their production there.
