If found guilty, Vaiko can be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. The MDMK is up in arms against the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, accusing her of using Pota as a political tool.
The court sentenced Vaiko for one-year simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. The court also suspended the sentence for a month allowing Vaiko to appeal against the verdict.
Vaiko said his party's stand on the LTTE will continue to remain the same and "there is no change in our approach". His party's general council will meet in the city on March 11.
