Investigators found a cowboy hat near the vehicle and were working to determine whether it belongs to Boelter.

Residents of Sibley County are encouraged to lock their doors and secure their vehicles, adding that law enforcement will be going to area residences to ask to search properties.

An armed Vance Boetler was spotted in military gear in the Green Isle area Sunday night. Authorities are asking people to shelter in place.
