Sonic Unleashed Recompiled is a fan-made mod that brings the original game to the modern era with uncapped framerates, smooth gameplay, and so much more.

After 17 years, Sonic Unleashed finally has a native PC port, and it's been developed with a tool that could potentially help give the same treatment to any Xbox 360 game. With that, the door to one of the most exciting avenues of game preservation we've seen in ages might have been kicked open in a major way.

Sonic Unleashed is finally available on PC thanks to a fan-made port with modern quality of life features. Unleashed is the Sonic game with the rubbish werehog bits, but its actual Sonic levels are brilliant - their mix of sidescrolling and 3D styles formed the basis of games in the series ever since - and Sonic Generations in particular.

It's not one of the games that immediately springs to mind when you think of which blue blur adventure is ripe for a remaster, but a fan-made PC port is making us see things in a new light (thanks for the heads up, Push Square ). Sonic Unleashed is the first Xbox 360 game to receive a native port via Recompilation on PC, and the tools used have been open sourced.

There have been many attempts to bring Sonic Unleashed to PC over the years, including one effort which saw the game’s original daytime stages ported into Sonic Generations. But this version spans the entire game, and even adds some tasty features, like an uncapped framerate and various graphics options.
