Carlos Mendoza wasn’t worried about Juan Soto after the New York Mets' star slugger didn’t homer in his first 15 home games at Citi Field. More importantly, neither was Soto. The Mets' $765 million man hit his first two homers at home on Thursday — but those were the only runs for New York in a 4-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor and right fielder Juan Soto followed with back-to-back walks, bringing up first baseman Pete Alonso, who represented the game-winning run. Instead, Alonso was hit by a pitch on the hand, loading the bases for third baseman Mark Vientos.

Pinch hitter Geraldo Perdomo's two-run single in the seventh inning put the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks ahead, and they withstood a furious ninth-inning rally by the New York Mets for a 4-3 win on Wednesday night.
