Alarmed by an intelligence assessment that Iran will be able to produce nuclear weapons within months if not weeks, Israel has launched a massive air campaign aiming to destroy the country’s nuclear program.

If there is military action by Israel against Iran, it would be conducted without U.S. military support, an administration official said. But American intelligence assistance could be provided.

The strikes came after the Israeli military said it had carried out fresh strikes on Iran nuclear infrastructure sites.
