Liverpool are in talks to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and have been made aware of the possibility of sending Harvey Elliott in the opposite direction

An offer is yet to be made for the England international while an agreement would also need to be reached on the player side.

Liverpool have held initial talks with a view to signing Crystal Palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi this summer. Palace captain Guehi has a year left on his contract, but chairman Steve Parish said earlier this week he could be sold to avoid him moving on a free transfer in 12 months' time.

Liverpool have agreed a £26m fee with Parma for Italian defender Giovanni Leoni. The 18-year-old centre-back is set to become their sixth major summer signing and take their spending in this window past £300m.

Ultimately for Marc Guehi, it is Liverpool or nothing this summer. That is not an ideal scenario for Crystal Palace, who were hoping for an auction. But the alternative is losing him for nothing next summer - when he may end up joining the Reds on a free transfer anyway.
