While a Gulf disturbance that moved into Texas on Friday seems to have run its course, Hurricane Erin in the western Atlantic intensifies.
Erin, the first hurricane of the season, is now forecast to become a Category 4 by Sunday. Here's where it could head in the week ahead.
At 11 a.m., the center of Hurricane Erin was located about 235 miles east-northeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, traveling west at 17 mph. Forecasters said Erin is undergoing rapid intensification and is expected to strengthen further in the coming hours.
Hurricane Erin was expected to soak the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico with heavy rain through the weekend before heading north up the Atlantic.
