Chief Matt Millsaps provided the new details as he honored Andrew Duarte at the 30-year-old officer's funeral Friday.

Officer Andrew Duarte was remembered Friday as a dedicated public servant who did not hesitate to run toward danger and died a hero in the shooting at UPMC Memorial Hospital.

A nurse wrote that she was held against the attacker as a shield at gunpoint, arms zip-tied behind her back, as they walked through a doorway and encountered responding police officers.

"He pulled the trigger three times on my mother's head. Luckily, he was out of bullets, or my mother wouldn't be here right now," Jayden Huff says.
