DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Israel launched an expanded assault on Iran on Sunday, with direct strikes targeting its energy industry and Defense Ministry headquarters, while Tehran unleashed a fresh barrage of missiles blamed for the deaths of four people and injuries of many others.
Iran launched dozens of ballistic missiles toward Israel on Friday night in retaliation for Israel's surprise attack early Friday. Israel struck at the heart of the Iran's nuclear program, killing several nuclear scientists as well as high-ranking military leaders, according to Israeli officials.
The conflict between Israel and Iran - once played out in a series of proxy wars - has escalated. On Friday morning, explosions hit Tehran as Israel carried out a major attack on its nuclear capabilities. Iran threatened "severe punishment" and quickly retaliated with a wave of missiles.
