However, Stefan Bondy of The New York Post reported Tuesday that Dallas is unlikely to grant the Knicks that permission, ending New York's pursuit then and there.

The Knicks have already been denied permission to interview Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd, Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch, Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka and the Atlanta Hawks' Quin Snyder by their respective teams, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
