Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels have taken the first move toward expanding the men’s basketball staff by hiring renowned sports agent Jim Tanner as the new general manager and executive director.

Since Hubert Davis became UNC’s head coach in April 2021, he has maintained a preference for only having former Tar Heels on his staff.

North Carolina Tarheels basketball coach Hubert Davis has two more years on his contract. Still, his recent decision to bring on a new general manager to help the blueblood men’s basketball program navigate the changing landscape of collegiate athletics leads many to believe Davis might be here for years to come.

Tanner, a UNC graduate, High Point native and longtime NBA agent, is founder of Tandem Sports + Entertainment.

North Carolina coach Hubert Davis has another two years on his deal and a new general manager to help the men's basketball program deal with the changing landscape of college athletics. Davis has signed a two-year extension running through the 2029-30 season to lead his alma mater.

The hire comes three weeks after head coach Hubert Davis declared on the Carolina Insider podcast in early February his intentions to hire a general manager.
