Chinese state media say that 30 people have died in heavy rains and flooding in and around Beijing, raising the death toll from the flooding in the region to 34.

Beijing’s reeling from catastrophic floods that killed 30 people—28 in Miyun district and two in Yanqing—as of July 29, 2025, with four more deaths in a Hebei landslide. Over 40,000 have been evacuated as the Miyun reservoir hit its highest level since 1959.

The facility sat on low-lying ground near a river that had flooded after the unusually intense rain. It housed 69 residents, including 55 who were disabled in some capacity.
