Nagasaki has marked the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic attack on the southern city in Japan. Survivors are determined to make their hometown the last place on Earth hit by a nuclear bomb.

The western Japanese city was levelled on Aug. 9, 1945, when the United States dropped a 10,000-pound plutonium-239 bomb, nicknamed “Fat Man”.

Some 74,000 people were killed in Nagasaki following the US atomic bomb drop three days after Hiroshima, as the town’s mayor, Shiro Suzuki, calls to ‘stop armed conflicts immediately’. View on euronew
